The Hospice Unit is located on the ground floor in the south wing of St. Michael’s Centre. It is situated between the Centre’s “Living Garden” to the north and David Grey Park to the west.
There are sixteen private rooms, each complete with an en-suite two piece bathroom. Each room is fully furnished and has its own direct phone line, television and stereo. A sleeper chair is provided in each room to allow family members to stay overnight and shower facilities for family use are also available.
A kitchen and dining room are available for both patient and family use, either to share a meal or celebrate a special occasion with treats from home. If you would like to share a meal with your loved one, meal tickets can be purchased from the Receptionist. Requests for trays must be made through the Nursing staff before 10:30 am for lunch, and before 3:30 pm for supper. Meal requests may be limited to two guest trays per meal.
The living room is equipped with a television and VCR/DVD system, in addition to being well stocked with toys, games, videos, etc. for younger family members to enjoy.
Wireless access is available throughout the Centre for a nominal fee. Patients/families that wish to access this service would need to provide their own computer with wireless capability and are responsible for the security of their computer/peripherals and any computer related problems or repairs, other than the actual wireless connection.
The Gerald J. Herkel Library provides a quiet space to talk with staff or loved ones. We also have a selection of music and books available for both patient and family use. A phone is also available for family use.
The sunroom overlooks David Grey Park and is a lovely spot to visit with friends or just enjoy nature. We also have a heated semi-enclosed designated smoking area for use by patients and family members.
A washer and dryer are available adjacent to the dining room for patient’s personal laundry.
